Positive Train Control

The Challenge:

Our team was approached for a large project that requires casting engineering, prototyping, casting tooling production, and machining. This project also needs to address government regulations, schedules of 5 railroads, and logistics. How can we build 25,000 rugged positive train control electronic enclosures for locomotives across North America?

The Solution:

Collaborating with stakeholders, we identified key requirements and the best methods to achieve results that exceeded expectations. We started by re-engineering cast aluminum electronics cases to determine working design constraints. Tooling for the Sinto automated precision molding system was CAD designed and then machined for scalable production of the positive train controls. Our team used two horizontal CNC Haas EC 400 Pallet Bool and Haas EC 500 to build castings and CNC-machined parts simultaneously.

The Results:

The positive train control system was built to exact specifications and according to the desired schedules using automated molding and precision machining expertise.
