Positive Train Control

The Challenge:

Build rugged Positive Train Control electronic enclosures for 25,000 locomotives for North America. Move the project from casting engineering, through prototypes, to production casting tooling, production CNC tooling to finished product on a large scale.   Government regulations, schedules, 5 railroads, the scale of the project and the logistics made this an interesting challenge.   

The Solution:

We collaborated with “stake holders” to identify requirements and best way forward to achieve outstanding project results. We reengineered cast aluminum electronics case working within design constraints. We CAD designed and CNC machined production casting tooling for our Sinto automated precision molding system for scalable production. We utilized two horizontal CNC Haas EC 400 Pallet Pool and Haas EC 500 and built castings and CNC machined parts simultaneously. 

The Results:

The Positive Train Control System was built right and on time using our Sinto precision automated molding system and CNC machining expertise.
